Routes To Work – Careers Fair At Alexandra Palace

19 July 2017

Fashion Enter was invited to a major post-16 careers fair by ProspectsAn exciting careers event aimed at providing Haringey students from Years 10-12 with options for post 16 including; Higher Education, A-levels, BTECs, apprenticeships, employment, training and vocational qualifications.

This event was the first of its kind with a turnout of 770 attendees.

Cheryl Terry, Employer Coordinator- Careers Clusters was my contact there. She said: ‘My grandmother used to mend uniforms during the war, by default I have learned about stitching even though it is not my passion. Especially when I have to mend clothes for my children and put badges on their arms’.

I also bumped into Chris, a former factory employee who was accompanying his teenage daughter. He sends his regards to his former Factory manager and to the rest of the Team at Fashion Enter.

Other organisations which took part at the event were Big Creative, Haringey Routes to work, London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT), City and Guilds, Bridges to Birkbeck, BSix Brooke House Sixth Form College, UK unsigned.

Young learners showed an interest in our apprenticeship programme and could not wait to get their GCSE results in summer 2017 to apply with Fashion Enter. Some of their parents shyly asked whether our Level 1 and 2 courses are targeted for adults, and were so relieved once I reassured them they could join! Level 1 leaflets were flying off the desk and were eager to sign up for Stitching Academy Level 1 and Perfect Patterns! I even had an eleven year old who was really keen to register!

Janet Willoughby, apprenticeship co-ordinator from Haringey London said:

‘I think Fashion Enter is amazing, I recently attended an Open Day there. It would be nice if they could come up with a ‘Taste the workshop day’ for young people’
