Hidden River 2018 Design Competition Winner And Runners-Up

1 November 2018

When Fashion Enter and the FTA took part in the local Hidden River Festival last month (September 2018), a design competition to create a fresh look was launched. There was also an activity for children to design using crayons on canvas bags made by our very own talented technician May. Children and adults of all ages took part as they visited our stand. A vote subsequently took place, where a panel of industry experts from both FashionCapital and the Fashion Technology Academy reviewed the stunning design illustrations.

The panel included, amongst others, our stitching, pattern cutting and apprenticeship tutors, our in house designer and Head of Creative as well as our very own CEO!

All runners up were invited to the FTA on Thursday, 25th and Friday, 26th October to collect their prize and be given a tour of the Factory, Fashion Studio and Fashion Technology Academy.

1st prize winner: Yasmin, a year 9 student who really enjoys drawing since she was a toddler. Her father pointed out that there are sketches all over the house to this day! Yasmin’s family is also involved in different aspects of fashion.

(Winner Yasmin in the red jacket and 3rd runner-up Anna to her left along with Esme and Ana left and CEO Jenny Holloway far right)

(2nd runner-up Toema with tutor Ana left and Toema’s mother right)

2nd runner up: Toema Mercadini, her mother Mirgeta said that Toema could not sleep the night before coming to visit Fashion Enter HQ from her excitement. Toema is currently a year 9 student, and brought her sketches in for our industry experts Julia and Ana to view. They were very pleased to see the drawings made; Julia advised for Toema to sign up to Textiles A-level at completion of her GCSEs.

3rd runner up: Anna Pearshouse, technician at Camden School for Girls. Anna was so impressed with the tour of our facilities that she is looking into arranging school tours to visit Fashion Enter in the near future.

Stitching Academy tutor Ana commented: It was our first competition within the community and I am pleased with the result! I look forward to many more events in the near future. Our participants were fantastic and it really shows how much undiscovered talent there is. I wish the winners all the best and I look forward to having them join the FTA should they decide to nurture their skills and abilities further.”
