Career And Volunteering Event At Ann Tayler Children’s Centre In London Fields, Hackney
16 November 2016
This is a yearly event but it was the first time Fashion Enter received an invitation following our recent East London contract.
Steve Hanshaw, borough relationship manager for the Department of Work and Pensions was my contact there. He was very impressed with our table set up and banner, and thanked Fashion Enter for attending:
‘I am pleased that we have made a start on recruiting for the East London Grant. The key is to get Fashion Enter into jobcentres and promote their Stitching Academy programmes; I Iook forward to more people signing up’.
Mothers showed interest in what we do in our Fashion Technology Academy and the different courses we offer. Some had pre-existing skills and wanted to refresh their knowledge to boost their chances in the job market, others were interested in learning how to stitch to mend their children’s school uniforms. It was enlightening to see committing to a course which could potentially change their lives whilst juggling childcare being single mothers.
Other organisations which took part at the event were Crisis, Volunteer Centre, Reed Opportunity Hackney, SR Employment, Step Ahead.
Vanisha Meisuria, a recruitment consultant from Step Ahead, an organisation renowned for excellence in recruitment and training, suggested the possibility of making contacts with the clothing brands within the city of London to see if they are willing to take on apprenticeship with Fashion Enter.
