Fabrics is a six week course, where you can learn the fundamentals of fabrics: how to identify the construction and characteristics of man-made and natural fabrics.
You will observe the lay planning process and complete a manual lay.
What You Will Study:
You will study 3 units, each 4 credits which, upon successful completion, will gain you the ABC Level 1 Award in Fashion and Textiles.
Fabric Inspection, 4 credits
You will be taught about fabric qualities and faults.This includes knowledge of the properties of natural and man-made fabrics, and what are common fabric faults and solutions.
Fabric Laying, 4 credits
You will be taught a basic understanding of fabric laying. This includes: identifying a range of woven and knitted fabrics; how to describe the lay planning process; choose the correct lay plans and how to perform a manual lay.
Principles of Fabric Cutting, 4 credits
You will be taught a basic understanding of fabric cutting. This includes how to identify the correct cutting tools for a range of fabrics and to recognise the correct lay plan; fabric and components for a garment specification. This unit also introduces relaxing of the fabric.
How you will be taught
This is a very hands on course so right from the start, you will be learning practical processes. You will be inducted into Health and Safety procedures and policies to ensure you work safely amongst your fellow learners and teachers. Your progress will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure you are getting the most from the course.
What can I do once I have completed the course?
Upon successfully completing the course, you can seek employment with your new found skills or you can progress onto our Perfect Patterns Level 2 course or apply for an apprenticeship.
